How icd10free.com handles your data.

1. Information We Collect

icd10free.com is designed as a reference tool for medical codes. We collect minimal data by design:

  • Usage analytics: Anonymous page views, search queries, and feature interactions to improve the Service.
  • Extension lookups: The Chrome extension sends search queries and hovered or selected medical codes to the icd10free API so we can return code names, billable status, and payment data. The extension does not send full page contents to our servers.
  • Extension local data: Bookmarks, folders, search history, and settings are stored in Chrome local storage on your device unless you export or import that data.
  • Cookies & local storage: Used solely for session management and preferences. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.
  • Optional contact info: If you email us, we retain your message and email address only to respond.

We do not collect, store, or process protected health information (PHI). The Service and extension are not designed to receive or store patient-identifying data.

2. How We Use Your Data

Any data we collect is used exclusively for:

  • Operating, maintaining, and improving the Service
  • Returning medical code details for searches and extension lookups
  • Understanding usage patterns to guide product development
  • Responding to inquiries you submit voluntarily

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Data Security

We implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect data in transit and at rest, including TLS encryption and secure hosting infrastructure.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Third-Party Services

icd10free.com uses third-party services for hosting (Vercel) and analytics. These providers have their own privacy policies governing data processing.

We do not integrate third-party advertising networks or sell data to data brokers.

5. HIPAA Notice

icd10free.com is not a covered entity or business associate under HIPAA. The Service is a publicly available medical code reference tool and is not designed to handle, store, or transmit protected health information (PHI). The Chrome extension may scan visible page text locally for medical code patterns, but full page contents are not transmitted to icd10free.com for detection.

Users should not enter any patient-identifiable information into the Service. If you require a HIPAA-compliant tool for handling PHI, please contact us to discuss enterprise options.

6. Cookies

We use minimal cookies and local storage for essential functionality:

  • Session management (required for site operation)
  • UI preference persistence (e.g., theme, layout)

You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not function as intended.
